Lunch and a Bite of History speaker series
Written surveys were distributed to all attendees at each session. It was expected that a majority of respondents at each program would indicate they:
• gained a greater understanding of local history.
• have a greater appreciation for unique cultural perspectives and interpretations.
• have a greater appreciation for critical historical events that continue to shape Minnesota’s
political, economic, social, and community environment today.
• will share a positive review of the program with others.
There was an overwhelmingly positive response to all five programs presented. The vast majority of respondents indicated they learned more about the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862
and were able to place the presenters’ talks into the broader context of the conflict. People from New Ulm,
Sleepy Eye, Springfield, Mankato, Rochester, and the Twin Cities attended the program and were enthusiastic about the topics presented. Every program included interaction between the audience and presenter, and many attendees remained after each program to talk with the speaker and amongst themselves.
Anecdotal responses from attendees included “The information was new and fresh.” “Thank you so much for this program!” and “Please continue involving the Lower Sioux Community.”
This is the fourth year the Brown County Historical Society has presented Lunch and a Bite of History and the third year New Ulm Public Library has been involved, and the partnership has been incredibly successful.
