Project Overview
Author Rachael Hanel began her day at NRHEG High School. She spoke to two sections of writing classes, giving writing tips, stressing the need for an inner and outer story, as well as writing about what you know and how editing can take years. At the New Richland Public Library Grand Opening event, Rachael spoke about her memoir, "We'll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger's Daughter."

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants will meet an author who grew up 12 miles from New Richland and learn about the writing process. Students will learn about writing as a career. Adults at the evening event will be able to view the new library and will be asked to sign up to support future projects at the library.

Measurable Outcome(s)

An evaluation form was created based on the outcomes from the grant application. Examples of things participants learned about writing included: "Use more details, even if it means more work." "Throw your ideas down then organize them later."
