Harriet Bishop, History Player
Program attendees will learn the role of women in American frontier education, the differences and similarities between school in the 19th and 21st centuries, the diverse peoples who lived in St. Paul during Minnesota's territorial years and the mid-19th century experience of leaving one's home behind to move to a new territory.
The audience was smaller than expected, but very enthusiastic and asked questions. One audience member was happy to discover why so many schools are named after Harriet Bishop and others were surprised to discover Harriet was very active in the temperance and women's suffrage movements. Some attendees traveled from nearby towns and visited the Watonwan County/St. James Library for the first time. All outcomes were achieved.
