Project Overview
The Little Prairie Pickers, a five-piece bluegrass and folk band based in New Ulm, played a 75-minute, all ages concert in German Park. After the concert, the band talked with audience members and sold their CD and memorabilia. This program was part of the Monday Night Concert in the Park series sponsored by KNUJ Radio and New Ulm Park and Recreation. This is the fourth consecutive year the library co-sponsored a concert, which provided an opportunity to promote the library's community partnerships and its involvement in supporting the arts through Legacy grant funding. To publicize the concert and the library's collection of bluegrass CDs, library staff created a display on the main level of the library.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Based on anecdotal responses and observations, it was expected that a majority of attendees would show their appreciation for bluegrass and folk music by clapping and/or singing, indicate they will share their positive experience with others and indicate they are interested in attending future library programs.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Librarian observed audience members clapping throughout the program. The Little Prairie Pickers invited the crowd to sing along to a couple of songs, including "This Land Is Your Land," and a number of people joined in. After the program, several people talked with the band members and purchased items. Many regular library patrons were in attendance. Anecdotal responses to the program included, "Great." "I loved it." "There is so much local talent."
