Project Overview
This work will be done on Waterfowl Production Areas in the Detroit Lakes Wetland Management District. All of these sites are open to hunting. At these sites the upland restoration has already been completed using native grasses and forbs. The work will serve two purposes. The primary purpose of course is to provide wildlife habitat. All of these sites are also in the flood-prone Red River Valley. These wetlands will hold water out of the streams, ditches, and rivers, decreasing flood peaks downriver. We have mapped each site by number of wetland basins, not acres of wetlands. However, in the past, wetlands average out to about one acre. Therefore, the number of wetlands and number of acres generally agree. We hope to complete approximately 50 basins across these 3 sites.
