KMSU - Grind Fu Cinema
This project is designed to bring an appreciation of cult and outsider films to a wider audience through a series of free screenings at the Wiecking Center Auditorium on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own soft drinks and popcorn to thoroughly enjoy the quirky, occasionally dark, and often spooky films. These events are produced and hosted by KMSU’s morning show team of “Shy Boy” Tim and Shelley, who are regional experts on emergency preparedness for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Arts, culture and history will be interwoven into every facet of community life: Movies are as American as apple pie, but appreciation of these films will broaden the cultural appreciation of Minnesotans attending these free screenings.More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, abilities and incomes will participate in the arts, culture and history: Making these screenings free meets this outcome.People will trust Minnesota’s stewardship of public arts, culture and history funding: The cost of screening these films is remarkably small for the quality of these films.Arts, culture and history will thrive in Minnesota: With a broad palette of films screened, Minnesotans will be encouraged to explore more than the Hollywood blockbusters, enhancing their appreciation of the medium. More student exposure to professional performing arts, and the work of professional artists: Because these films are screened on the University campus, there are ample opportunities for students to attend. How outcomes will be measured: -Attendance at events -Arbitron/Radio Research Consortium ratings information -Internet and social media statistics.
