Volunteer Coordinator position to recruit, coordinate, and lead Natural Resource Volunteers in land stewardship and wildlife monitoring projects.  The person would also lead volunteers in performing responsible natural resource and environmental work.

$12,641,000 the first year and $15,140,000 the second year are from the parks and trails fund to be distributed as required under new Minnesota Statutes, section 85.535, subdivision 3, except that of this amount, $40,000 the first year is for a grant to Hennepin County to plant trees along the Victory Memorial Parkway.

Eco and Park Steward Programs

  • Coordinated volunteer programs to preserve, protect, and restore Saint Paul's natural heritage and resources by assisting with land restoration, conservation, and maintenance within Saint Paul's regional park system. 
  • Increased volunteerism in regional parks by 35% in 2010.
  • Hosted 47 volunteer events from April through October, 2010.
  • Engaged 3,711 volunteers for a total of 9,008 hours.
  • Fostered partnerships with the National Park Service, REI, Friends of the Mississippi River, Great River Greening, Hands On Twin Cities, and others.

Garden Steward Program

  • 48% of Parks' gardens are maintained with the help of volunteers (49 of 102 Parks' garden sites)
  • Tracked 395 volunteers, completing 3,887 volunteer hours of service.

Interpretive Volunteer Program 
Recruited and trained 5 skilled volunteers to lead educational interpretive hikes in St Paul's regional parks.
