Rehabilitation of State Trail Bridge over the South Branch of the Middle Fork Zumbro River.

About the Issue

The Douglas State Trail, Bridge #9, is a 3 span, steel girder bridge which carries the Douglas State Trail over the South Branch Middle Fork Zumbro River. The rehabilitation of the bridge will be completed in two phases: (1) rehabilitation of the masonry piers and all structural components; (2) replacement of the existing deck and the installation of new safety railings. Structural rehabilitation is anticipated to be completed by 1 December 2011.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Rehabilitation of a former railroad bridge which currently carries the Douglas State Trail over the South Branch Middle Fork Zumbro River. This 3 span steel through-girder structure that is approximately 100 years old. This multispan structure has been inspected and has been recommended for rehabilitation.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The rehabilitation of this 218 foot long three span steel girder bridge to safely accommodate continued recreational trail use. The rehabilitation is to include the repair to the masonry piers and abutments the installation of a new trail surface/deck and the installation of new safety railing across the entire structure. Because the bridge is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places - specific rehabilitation guidelines apply. The rehabilitation of this trail structure is scheduled to be completed by 1 November 2012.
