ACHF Arts Access ACHF Arts Education
The goal is that students will be able to successfully play in a group finishing at least one song by the end of the 7 weeks. For the instructors, this is when we get to flex our analytical muscles hopefully discovering each student's unique way of learning and individual interests. This project is skills based so it will be important for teachers to conduct an assessment of each student during week. Documenting each student's skill level at week one, mid-way through, and then final week will give the data we as teachers need to help guide and mentor each student through the course. Assessment will be and should be completed as a group of teachers working together to determine what each student will need to be successful.
We definitely were able to witness students attaining the skills needed to play through a few songs. While they learned beginner skills, they managed to progress pretty well. Unless the student had an instrument at home to practice on, they only play time they got was in the session. The results were definitely what we anticipated. The means we used to evaluate were in person evaluation with the students; teaching, practicing, and producing as a group what was taught at the individual level. Participants went from not knowing how to hold a guitar to being able to play 3-5 chords.
